The girl feels boxed in and in need of air.

She wonders when she has become less of the job and more of the drinks. It seems with each passing day she understands how very easy it is to fall into vices, into the deep swirl of a good hard drink...into the slumber that follows, that takes away the ache and annoyance of the whole week.

She numbs the thoughts running amok in her busy head and tries to kill any semblance of feelings with odd one-offs and non-labelled interactions with various colourful characters. The friends she keep she is now losing. The closest she has already lost. She is counting down to the point when she will lay on the floor of some squallid club, waiting for her friend to take her home in a cab. Just waiting.

What did you do in 2008 that you'd never done before?

I empty myself of the names of others. I empty my pockets.
I empty my shoes and leave them beside the road.
At night I turn back the clocks;
I open the family album and look at myself as a boy.

What good does it do? The hours have done their job.
I say my own name. I say goodbye.
The words follow each other downwind.
I love my wife but send her away.

My parents rise out of their thrones
into the milky rooms of clouds. How can I sing?
Time tells me what I am. I change and I am the same.
I empty myself of my life and my life remains.

Killer liner right here: 'I empty myself of my life and my life remains.' What does this poem mean to you? Each stanza can be read as espousing a different theme. To me, the last line seem to take the meaning of how even when is he physically gone, the trajectories of his life are so indelible they cannot be erased...e.g. the choices he made, cannot just be forgotten even after his death. That the choices transcends the body...esp true if one looks at history... the memory collective trumps the individual's account...and sociologically speaking, society (social action/choice) triumphs over the individual... Durkheim's perspective.

I woke up this morning
Now I understand
What it means to give your life
To just one man
Afraid of feeling nothing
No bees or butterflies
My head is full of voices
And my house is full of lies

This is home, home
And this is home, home
This is home

I found your standing there
When I was seventeen
Now I'm thirty-two
And I can't remember

what I'd seen in you
I made a promise
Said it everyday
Now I'm reading romance novels
And I'm dreaming of yesterday

I'd like to see the Riviera
And slowdance
underneath the stars
I'd like to watch the sun come up
In a stranger's arms

I'm going crazy
A little at a time
And everything I wanted
Is now driving me away
I woke this morning
To the sound of beating hearts
Mine is full of questions
And it's tearing yours apart...

Won't you walk me through the Tiergarten?
Won't you walk me through itWon't you walk me through the Tiergarten?
Won't you walk me through it all, darling?
Doesn't matter if it is raining
Won't you walk me through it all?

Even if the sun, it is blazing
Even if the snow, it is raging
All the elements, we must conquer
To get to the other side of town

I have suffered shipwreck against your dark brown eyes
I have run aground against your broken down smiles
Believe me when I tell you I have no place to go
But to go where the wild flowers grow and the stone gardens bloom.

Won't you walk me through the Tiergarten?
Won't you walk me through it all, darling?
Doesn't matter if it is raining,
We'll get to the other side of town.
all, darling?
Doesn't matter if it is raining
Won't you walk me through it all?

Even if the sun, it is blazing
Even if the snow, it is raging
All the elements, we must conquer
To get to the other side of town

I have suffered shipwreck against your dark brown eyes
I have run aground against your broken down smiles
Believe me when I tell you I have no place to go
But to go where the wild flowers grow and the stone gardens bloom.

The time I would spend,
with pictures I would not send.
I watched you go from left to right,
I followed you all night.
Across my blinds.

You'll change your mind come Monday,
and turn your back on me.
You'll take your steps away with hesitance,
Take your steps away from me.

I'm making my peace,
making it with distance.
Maybe that's a big mistake,
you know I'm thinking of you.
I miss you.

You'll change your mind come Monday,
and turn your back on me.
You'll take your steps away with hesitance,
You'll take your steps away from me.

You'll change your mind come Monday,
and turn your back on me.
You'll take your steps away with hesitance,
You'll take your steps away from me.
